LG launches ThinQ AI platform to upgrade & maintain appliances
LG has launched its new LG ThinQ AI platform for smart home appliances in Europe.
The company is introducing LG ThinQ AI, an artificial intelligence-powered platform that integrates both ThinQ UP for ongoing software updates and ThinQ Care for proactive appliance maintenance. This platform is designed to provide a personalised user experience with appliances that adapt to user behaviour, update their features over time, and aim to improve long-term reliability for European customers.
Platform capabilities
LG ThinQ AI uses artificial intelligence to analyse data on household appliance usage and tailor features accordingly. The inclusion of ThinQ UP means that compatible appliances can receive new features through software updates. This approach is intended to keep appliances current and aligned with changing customer needs, without requiring the purchase of new hardware.
ThinQ Care, meanwhile, is focused on preventative maintenance. By monitoring appliance performance and identifying issues before they escalate, ThinQ Care supports users in maintaining the reliability and longevity of their machines. The diagnostic capabilities provide instructions for resolving minor concerns as they are detected.
"Our innovative ThinQ AI platform offers differentiated convenience and efficiency through continuous upgrades and intelligent, proactive care," said Lyu Jae-cheol, President of LG Home Appliance Solution Company. "We are committed to creating an AI home experience that evolves in step with the changing needs of our customer."
Energy efficiency and features
A key focus of the ThinQ AI platform is energy efficiency, with several new modes introduced for appliances. For example, washing machines now feature an Energy Saving Mode to help reduce household energy consumption. Refrigerators are equipped with AI Saving Mode, designed to identify opportunities to lower power use.
Further convenience-based additions include the Fresh Keeper function for washing machines, which keeps clothes left in the washer from wrinkling or developing odours. There is also a tub clean reminder feature that encourages users to maintain appliance hygiene. On refrigerators, Night View reduces the display brightness during night-time hours, and Smart Fill enables accurate water dispensing. The system also allows the built-in ice dispenser to be used as an additional water dispenser, providing greater flexibility.
User participation and updates
According to LG, the rollout of the ThinQ AI platform in Europe is the first stage of a planned global release. The company will use customer feedback to develop new ThinQ UP features tailored to each region. The ThinQ app includes a Share Your Ideas function, providing a channel for users to suggest potential features for future updates.
LG states that after the introduction of ThinQ AI in Europe, the availability of ThinQ UP service will expand to other regions worldwide over the course of the year.
Consumer engagement
During the demonstration of the new platform in Berlin, LG is highlighting how ThinQ UP allows for continuous functionality upgrades on appliances. The company is also showing scenarios in which ThinQ AI can adapt user home environments automatically through features such as voice recognition and personalised appliance settings. An interactive demonstration is provided, allowing participants to explore the range of settings and improvements that can be activated within a home environment powered by ThinQ AI.
"Our innovative ThinQ AI platform offers differentiated convenience and efficiency through continuous upgrades and intelligent, proactive care," said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company. "We are committed to creating an AI home experience that evolves in step with the changing needs of our customer."
Alongside the new platform, LG is displaying home appliance technology that incorporates artificial intelligence and includes recently integrated robot technologies intended for household use.
Product availability
LG has confirmed that ThinQ AI will begin rolling out in key European markets in September. The company has not yet detailed product specifications, pricing, or availability for Australia and has stated that these details will be announced separately to comply with local market requirements and regulations.
