Orbbec has broken ground on a new manufacturing base in Vietnam, adding to its overseas production network.
The facility, known as the RVMC Factory, is being built in the Thuan Thanh Industrial Zone in Bac Ninh Province and will cover more than 100,000 square metres. When it begins operations, it will mainly produce 3D vision sensors and smart hardware products for overseas markets.
The move adds a new manufacturing location outside China as Orbbec expands production for international customers. Representatives from local authorities and the industrial park attended the groundbreaking ceremony in Vietnam.
The factory is due to be completed and begin operations in 2027. Alongside the long-term project in Vietnam, Orbbec is also ramping up initial overseas production capacity, which is expected to begin operating in the near term.
Manufacturing network
The Vietnam site is intended to serve as a central manufacturing hub in Orbbec's wider production system. The company is building a phased setup that combines near-term output with longer-term infrastructure as demand rises from customers outside China.
This strategy sits alongside production growth at Orbbec's manufacturing base in China, which began operating at the end of 2024. According to the company, the Chinese plant is expected to reach annual sensor production in the millions of units.
That facility also provides contract manufacturing services for businesses developing robotic products and intelligent devices, including rehabilitation robots, robotic lawn mowers, humanoid robots, warehouse robots and cleaning robots.
Orbbec makes 3D vision sensors and AI vision products for sectors including robotics, 3D scanning and biometrics. It says it serves more than 3,000 clients and developers in nearly 100 countries and regions.
Supply chain focus
The investment reflects a broader push by technology manufacturers to spread production across more than one country. Companies supplying robotics, industrial automation and smart devices have faced pressure from customers seeking shorter delivery times and more stable supply chains.
For Orbbec, adding Vietnam creates a second major manufacturing base as it seeks to support overseas orders with localised production. Bac Ninh Province has become one of Vietnam's best-known electronics manufacturing centres, attracting suppliers and assemblers serving global markets.
Coordinated output across Orbbec's China and Vietnam facilities is expected to support a more resilient and scalable system. The new factory is also intended to strengthen local manufacturing support for customers in overseas markets.
Orbbec has built its business around in-house chips and 3D vision technology, with products aimed at machine vision and robotics applications. Demand in those markets has been supported by investment in automation and the growing use of visual sensing in devices that navigate, inspect and interact with their surroundings.
Manufacturers in the sector are increasingly being asked to combine product development with dependable volume production. As a result, factory location and supply chain design have become more important competitive factors, particularly for companies serving customers in multiple regions.
Brent Chan, Chief Financial Officer at Orbbec, said: "The groundbreaking of RVMC marks not only the start of a new facility, but also a significant step forward in strengthening Orbbec's global manufacturing and delivery system. Going forward, we will continue to enhance our global production footprint and improve supply chain resilience through a multi-site manufacturing strategy, delivering higher-quality products and solutions to customers and partners worldwide."
