Vertiv has opened a manufacturing facility in Johor, Malaysia, expanding its manufacturing footprint in Asia.

The site is intended to support demand for artificial intelligence and high-density computing infrastructure across Southeast Asia, North Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It adds regional manufacturing, engineering, logistics and deployment support.

The Johor plant will manufacture, assemble and test thermal and power infrastructure for data centre environments, including liquid cooling equipment, prefabricated power systems and overhead infrastructure designed for high-density computing deployments.

Products to be built at the site include Vertiv CoolChip coolant distribution units for liquid cooling applications, including direct-to-chip and rear-door heat exchangers for dense racks. The plant will also produce Vertiv Power Module and Vertiv Power Skid systems, as well as the SmartRun prefabricated overhead infrastructure system.

The Malaysian site includes a testing environment for liquid cooling and integrated power systems before deployment. This includes testing across the full range of coolant distribution unit capacities, as well as simultaneous testing of multiple power modules and skids under customer site conditions.

Regional demand

The investment comes as technology suppliers and data centre operators add capacity across Asia to meet demand from artificial intelligence workloads and broader digital infrastructure projects. Johor has emerged as a manufacturing and data centre hub, supported by its links to Singapore and its position in one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing industrial markets.

Vertiv said the site would strengthen its supply chain resilience in the region. It described the move as part of broader capacity planning as customers seek power and cooling systems for successive generations of AI infrastructure.

"Asia continues to be one of the fastest-growing regions for AI and digital infrastructure investment, and expanding our manufacturing footprint in Malaysia aims to further enhance our ability to support customers with quality, speed, scale, and resilience," said Giordano (Gio) Albertazzi, Chief Executive Officer, Vertiv.

Albertazzi said the plant would also help serve larger and more complex computing deployments. "This facility represents another important step in our continuous capacity planning and deployment strategy as we further expand our regional and global manufacturing capabilities," he said.

Jobs and testing

When fully operational, the facility is expected to bring hundreds of skilled jobs to the region, with full operations expected in 2027.

The new site reflects a broader shift in the data centre supply chain towards more localised manufacturing and validation. Operators increasingly want equipment tested before it reaches a site, particularly where liquid cooling and modular power systems are being installed for large AI clusters.

Vertiv said the Johor facility is intended to help customers deploy digital infrastructure more efficiently as compute requirements change. Its witness-testing set-up is designed to validate system performance before equipment is shipped and installed.

"As compute requirements evolve across multiple generations of AI infrastructure, customers need partners to provide power, cooling, and infrastructure solutions at scale. The Johor facility enhances our ability to help customers deploy critical digital infrastructure more efficiently while supporting long-term growth across Asia," said Albertazzi.
