Zendesk names Bikram Mazumdar VP Asia to drive growth
Zendesk has appointed Bikram Mazumdar as Vice President, Asia, to oversee growth and go-to-market strategy across South East Asia, North Asia, Korea and India.
Based in Singapore, he takes on the regional role with responsibility for markets central to Zendesk's expansion in Asia Pacific. He reports to Mitch Young, Senior Vice President, APAC, and brings experience from Yellow.ai, Sprinklr, Oracle and IBM.
The appointment comes as companies across the region move from testing artificial intelligence tools to broader deployment in customer service and internal operations. Businesses are increasingly trying to balance rising consumer expectations with pressure to improve productivity.
Mazumdar's background spans customer experience, employee experience and AI software. In previous roles across APAC and EMEA, he led teams and helped expand enterprise business across multiple markets.
That experience will be closely watched in a region where AI adoption is no longer confined to pilot programmes. Many organisations are now trying to integrate AI with existing data systems and human support functions, particularly in service operations where automation and personalisation must work together.
Customer pressure
Zendesk's research points to growing pressure from consumers in Asia Pacific. It found that 77% of APAC consumers say their service standards have increased over the past year, while 75% want more personalised experiences from brands using AI. The same research found that 96% want clear explanations when AI is used.
Those figures help explain why software groups selling customer service tools are sharpening their focus on the region. Demand is being shaped not only by end-customer expectations, but also by companies seeking to reduce friction in internal workflows and support teams with automation.
Strategic role
Young said the region remains strategically important.
"Asia is a complex, diverse, and rapidly evolving region that remains a cornerstone of our global expansion strategy," said Mitch Young, Senior Vice President, APAC, Zendesk. "Bikram's deep expertise in conversational AI and his proven track record of scaling enterprise business in these markets make him the ideal leader to ignite our growth here," said Young. "His appointment will be instrumental as we help more organisations in the region transition to AI-powered service models," added Young.
Regional focus
Mazumdar will lead commercial strategy across a broad range of Asian markets with different levels of AI maturity, regulatory frameworks and customer service expectations. South East Asia and India have been among the fastest-growing areas for digital customer engagement, while North Asia and Korea remain important markets for large enterprise software spending.
His appointment also reflects a wider shift among software providers towards executives with direct AI experience, rather than traditional sales leadership alone. Yellow.ai, one of his former employers, is known for conversational AI products, while Sprinklr and Oracle serve large organisations managing customer and employee interactions at scale.
For Zendesk, the move strengthens leadership in a market where competition has intensified as software vendors position themselves around AI-driven service. The company is seeking to capture spending from organisations that want to move beyond experimentation and deploy tools more broadly across customer support and employee-facing functions.
Mazumdar described the timing as significant for both the business and the region.
"I am incredibly excited to join Zendesk at a time when the business is leading the charge in AI-powered service," said Bikram Mazumdar, Vice President, Asia, Zendesk. "Zendesk's ability to deliver immediate value through intelligent, empathetic, and seamless service systems is industry-leading," said Mazumdar.
"I look forward to building on our strong foundation in Asia, fostering deep-rooted trust with our partners, and helping our customers move the needle forward in their digital transformation journeys," added Mazumdar.
