Adobe unveils AI integration plans for creative workflow boost

Thu, 10th Apr 2025

Adobe has detailed its vision for integrating AI agents into its suite of products, including Acrobat, Adobe Express, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, to enhance creativity for users and streamline professional workflows.

Adobe Express, specifically, is experiencing significant growth due to increased demand from business professionals who seek efficient content creation tools. "Business professionals - from regional marketers to sales teams - are turning to Adobe Express to quickly create standout content," said the company, noting a 50% increase quarter-over-quarter in paying business customers and 85% year-over-year growth in adoption among students and next-gen customers.

The integration of Adobe Express into Acrobat has significantly transformed document workflows.

Users can now incorporate AI-generated visuals into PDFs, enhancing storytelling capabilities, which has resulted in a tenfold increase in Adobe Express engagement among Acrobat users over the past year.

Adobe has announced plans to support non-Adobe generative AI models from Google Cloud, Runway, and others within Adobe Express, broadening user options and flexibility in creative ideation. With around 225 plug-ins and integrations with popular applications such as Slack, Box, and Miro, Adobe Express aims to be a versatile and comprehensive tool for content creation.

Enterprises are increasingly adopting Adobe Express, with major brands such as Accenture, PGA TOUR, and Workday using the platform to scale branded content creation.

Examples include Red Hat reducing campaign production time from days to minutes and dentsu increasing content delivery speed by 70% across multiple markets.

Ely Greenfield, Chief Technology Officer of Creative Cloud Engineering at Adobe, highlighted the company's strategy for leveraging agentic AI, which allows AI to converse and solve complex problems.

"Our approach to agentic AI is clear, and it mirrors our approach to generative AI: The best use of AI is to give people more control and free them to spend more time on the work they love," explained Greenfield.

In Adobe Acrobat, agentic technology is aimed at enhancing digital document interaction, with 650 million monthly active users engaging with it.

New features are designed to make document handling more intuitive and efficient, including the creation of custom agents tailored to specific roles such as research or sales assistance.

Agentic AI is also set to fundamentally change the way users engage with Adobe Express by "stepping beyond the template" to create unique visual content. "We believe agentic AI will fundamentally accelerate our vision to empower people," said Adobe, with updates that include a creative partner assisting users throughout the creation process.

For Creative Cloud users, AI agents are poised to become integral to creative workflows, enhancing productivity in tools like Photoshop, where features such as Distraction Removal already employ AI to simplify editing tasks.

In Photoshop, Adobe plans to introduce the 'Actions panel,' enabling the software to analyze images and recommend context-aware edits. Greenfield shared, "This isn't just about faster edits — this is the foundation for how we envision an agent could support you in helping you learn and use Photoshop." Users will have access to natural language commands for over a thousand actions.

In Premiere Pro, Adobe's Media Intelligence feature is already helping video professionals by automatically recognising elements within clips, simplifying the editing process. Future developments aim to include AI agents capable of handling editorial tasks such as creating rough cuts and refining projects.

According to Adobe, "Media Intelligence solves a time-consuming part of the editing process, helping you find what you need in seconds by understanding your content and your context." This approach aims to streamline the production process by offering educated guesses on creative choices.

Adobe is positioning its AI advancements as key to accelerating creativity and productivity across its product ecosystem, intending to assist creators of all skill levels and domains.

Through the Adobe Research team, the company is focusing on building a foundational framework for its agentic AI vision to enhance personalization and creative output on a large scale.
