Visa expands Scan to Pay QR service for Asia Pacific merchants

Fri, 14th Nov 2025

Visa has launched its Scan to Pay QR payment solution, expanding digital payment choices for millions of merchants and consumers across Asia Pacific. The new offering enables merchants to accept Visa payments via widely used digital wallets and payment apps, both locally and for cross-border transactions.

Wider partnerships

The Scan to Pay rollout is powered by collaborations with major bank apps and digital wallets including Samsung Wallet across eight Asia Pacific markets, LINE Pay in Taiwan, VNPT Money in Vietnam, and credit card providers such as Woori Card and Hyundai Card in Korea. Additional partnerships with regional QR payment providers, such as Lakala in Mainland China, FOMO Pay in Singapore, VNPAY and NextPay in Vietnam, and OpenRice in Hong Kong, further broaden the solution's merchant reach.

This move is a component of the wider Visa Pay launch, a service designed to connect participating digital wallets to Visa-accepting merchants globally. Visa Pay enables consumers to tap, scan or pay online with their preferred wallets and payment apps, offering a more cohesive payment experience across multiple channels.

"As commerce across Asia Pacific becomes increasingly mobile-first, Visa is leading the way with innovations like Scan to Pay that accelerate QR payment adoption. By enabling millions of merchants to accept secure, seamless payments by tapping or scanning, we're not only expanding digital acceptance but also empowering consumers with more flexible ways to pay - anytime, anywhere," said T.R. Ramachandran, Head of Products and Solutions, Asia Pacific, Visa.

Customer benefits

The new solution offers consumers the ability to pay globally using digital wallets and apps, maintaining a consistent payment experience both at home and abroad. Users can choose from several payment methods such as tap, scan or online transactions, facilitated by the Visa Pay solution. Security features are supported by Visa's global network, which is designed to provide consumers with assurance on transaction reliability and safety regardless of their location.

Merchant opportunities

For merchants, the rollout of Scan to Pay can drive payment acceptance expansion, enabling them to serve more international visitors who use digital wallets from their home countries. The solution uses merchants' existing QR infrastructure, which can help lower payment processing costs and streamline daily operations. Visa also promotes its trusted network as a driver for business growth by broadening market reach and boosting engagement with new customer segments.

The Scan to Pay initiative reflects Visa's strategic approach to adapt digital payment services to varying market needs across the diverse Asia Pacific region. The company states that its tailored solutions aim to enhance both merchant and consumer experiences, facilitating payments that align with users' preferred methods in different countries.

"Visa's trusted network empowers merchants to grow their business, boost engagement, and enter new markets," said Ramachandran.
