GoTyme Bank has launched a Send Money Abroad service in its app, allowing customers to send funds to more than 200 countries and territories.
Supported by Wise Platform, the feature covers transfers in eight currencies: AUD, CNY, GBP, EUR, JPY, KRW, SGD and USD.
Customers can use the service directly within the bank's app without opening a separate USD account. It shows fees, exchange rates and the exact amount a recipient will receive before a transfer is confirmed, and includes transfer tracking from initiation to delivery.
The launch expands GoTyme's international payments offering as demand for cross-border transactions tied to education, healthcare, travel, business, and family support rises. Since partnering with Wise Platform last year, the bank has recorded an increase of more than 85% in the number of unique users of its international payments feature.
It also broadens access for foreign nationals living in the Philippines, who can open an account digitally and send money to their home countries through the app.
Cross-border demand
International money movement has become a more routine part of consumer banking in markets with large overseas populations, migrant communities and growing regional trade links. In the Philippines, remittances remain a major part of household finances, while outward transfers also support tuition, medical expenses and family payments abroad.
GoTyme is a digital bank backed by the Gokongwei group of companies and Tyme, a multi-country digital banking group. It has been expanding its app-based services as competition intensifies among banks and financial technology groups for a larger share of everyday payments and savings activity.
Shern Teo, Chief Strategy & Proposition Officer at GoTyme Bank, said the launch reflects changes in how customers manage money across borders.
"As our customers become increasingly global in how they live, work, study, and support their families, international banking needs are evolving alongside them," said Shern Teo, Chief Strategy & Proposition Officer at GoTyme Bank.
"Send Money Abroad is part of our broader commitment to making global financial services more accessible and integrated into the everyday banking experience, allowing customers to manage both local and international transactions seamlessly within one app," Teo said.
Wise partnership
Wise provides cross-border payments infrastructure to banks and larger companies, while also serving retail and business customers under its own brand. The arrangement gives GoTyme access to Wise's network for international transfers while keeping the customer journey within the bank's own application.
According to GoTyme, the service is designed to charge a single upfront fee and show customers the applicable exchange rate and final recipient amount before they proceed. Transfers can be completed in minutes, with a delivery estimator and payment status updates included in the app.
Samarth Bansal, APAC General Manager at Wise Platform, said the expanded tie-up marks a further step in the relationship between the two companies.
"We're delighted to be extending our partnership with GoTyme Bank as they continue to build innovative financial solutions for their customers. This launch reflects GoTyme Bank's commitment to responding to the growing urgency for faster, more transparent and more affordable cross-border payments across the region. As the first bank in the Philippines to allow customers to send transparent international payments at the mid-market exchange rate, GoTyme is delivering the experience that customers expect," Bansal said.
The service comes as banks in Southeast Asia seek to keep more payment flows within their own digital channels rather than lose them to specialist remittance firms. Transparent pricing, speed and tracking have become key points of competition in that market, particularly for customers sending frequent low- to mid-value transfers.
For GoTyme, the latest product adds an international function to a mobile-led banking model designed to cover routine transactions in one place. Customers can now send money abroad directly through the app, with visibility over charges, exchange rates and transfer progress.
